The Eastern Cape boasts a wealth of flora and fauna, including the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo), in a malaria free environment. Probably the most well-known reserve in this vast area is the Addo Elephant National Park, roughly 70km. north of Port Elizabeth in the Sundays RiverValley. It was established in 1931 to save the Eastern Cape or Addo Elephant from imminent extinction, and has since then grown into the 3rd largest National Park in the country.
Other Eastern Cape Game Reserves include an outstanding selection of private concessions and award winning private Game Reserves and Lodges. The coastal waters are rich in marine life, with abundant dolphins and the occasional whale spotted from the beaches.
